Cleopatra was the last active pharaoh of ancient Egypt from the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Macedonian Greek family. She is famous for her political and romantic relationships with Roman leaders Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, which helped her to secure her throne and protect Egypt for a time. Her reign ended with her death in 30 BCE, after which Egypt became a Roman province, and the Hellenistic period ended.
